Welcome to a brand new episode of For Your Consideration, the internet’s most beloved awards talk show, hosted by Oscar experts Scott Mantz, Perri Nemiroff, and Jeff Sneider
This week, the gang tackles the Best Actor race, which finds The Whale star Brendan Fraser going head to head with The Banshees of Inisherin star Colin Farrell, whose campaign may be bolstered by his other strong turns in The Batman, Thirteen Lives, and After Yang. Scott also thinks that Elvis star Austin Butler is poised to be a major threat this season.
Meanwhile, Jeff warns everyone not to sleep on Will Smith, whose performance in Emancipation is said to be excellent, though it remains to be seen whether Academy members will give him a fair shake in lieu of what happened at last year’s Oscar ceremony.
Elsewhere, Scott and Perri think that Bill Nighy stands a strong chance for his work in the Sony Pictures Classics release Living, while Jeff has faith in Jeremy Pope, the young star of A24’s The Inspection.
And there are still a couple of contenders whose films have yet to be seen by the FYC hosts, including Diego Calva (Babylon) and two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, who plays the title character in A Man Called Otto.
Above the Line will be the home of For Your Consideration this season, though all episodes will debut on Perri’s YouTube channel, so be sure to leave a comment with your own thoughts on this year’s Best Actress race. You can follow the gang on Twitter and Instagram at @MovieMantz, @PNemiroff, and @TheInSneider, and if you missed last week’s episode about the Best Actress race, you can catch it right here.
Until next time, we’ll FYC-ya later!
