Violent Night Trailer Finds Stranger Things Star David Harbour Delivering “Season’s Beatings” as Santa Claus

He’s making a list and checking it twice, and this year, you’d better pray you were nice because David Harbour is not messing around in the first trailer for Universal’s Christmas-themed action-comedy Violent Night.

The Stranger Things star plays Santa Claus, who takes on a group of mercenaries led by John Leguizamo who have taken a family hostage on Christmas Eve. The bad guys are swiftly greeted with “Season’s Beatings” from jolly old St. Nick.

Violent Night hails from director Tommy Wirkola (Netflix’s The Trip), and it seems destined to be a cult classic for the holiday season. The supporting cast includes National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation star Beverly D’Angelo as well as Cam Gigandet, Alex Hassell, Edi Patterson, and Copshop breakout Alexis Louder.

Pat Casey and Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog) wrote the movie, which was produced by 87North’s David Leitch, Kelly McCormick, and Guy Danella, and executive produced by Marc S. Fischer. Leitch and McCormick previously produced the kinetic action movies Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde, and Nobody, and the company is actively developing a sequel to the latter.

Universal Pictures will release Violent Night on Dec. 2 (wisely getting out in front of Avatar: The Way of Water), so check out the trailer below for a taste of what the studio plans to stuff in your stocking this holiday season.
