Fresh off a trio of genre films between X, Pearl, and Infinity Pool, Mia Goth has signed on to join two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in Marvel’s new Blade movie.
Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) is directing from a script by Michael Starrbury (When They See Us), and Marvel’s Kevin Feige is producing the comic book movie, which will reintroduce the character made popular by Wesley Snipes in a trilogy of movies that were made prior to the birth of the MCU.
Plot details for the new Blade movie remain under wraps, as does Goth’s role, though some have speculated that she could be playing Dracula’s daughter, Lilith. Marvel Studios first announced the Blade movie back in 2019, and development has been something as a struggle, though sources say that the script has certainly improved in recent months.
Created as a supporting character by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, Blade is a half-human/half-vampire hybrid who first appeared in the Marvel comic Tomb of Dracula No. 10 in 1973, quickly becoming a cult favorite.
Goth is currently shooting Ti West‘s horror movie MaXXXine, which rounds out his A24 trilogy that includes X and Pearl. She’s also in talks to co-star alongside Andrew Garfield and Oscar Isaac in a new Frankenstein movie from Guillermo del Toro, who coincidentally directed Blade II back in 2002.
Goth is represented by WME and Curtis Brown Group, and Deadline broke the news of her casting.
