Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and PEN15 co-creator Maya Erskine are set to executive produce and star in The Perfect Nanny, an HBO limited series based on the novel by Leïla Slimani.
Erskine wrote and created the series, which HBO is producing with Legendary Entertainment. It’s based on Slimani’s 2016 book that was inspired by the real-life murder of Lucia and Leo Krim by their nanny in 2012. Erskine is expected to play the seemingly perfect nanny, whose helpful personality eventually deteriorates into something sinister.
Kidman and Per Saari will executive produce under their Blossom Films banner along with Erskine, and joining them as EPs are Pascal Caucheteux of Why Not Productions and Philippe Godeau of Pan-Européenne.
Best known as the co-creator and star (along with Anna Konkle) of Hulu’s comedy series Pen-15, Erskine is currently filming Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith series, in which she stars opposite Donald Glover. Her other TV credits include HBO’s Insecure, the FXX comedy Man Seeking Woman, and the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. She also starred in the well-received 2019 indie movie Plus One.
Kidman won an Oscar for The Hours and has been racking up TV credits of late between HBO’s Big Little Lies and The Undoing, Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, and the upcoming Amazon series Expats. On the feature side, her genre credits include Dead Calm and The Others, and this year, she’s also expected to begin filming Amazon’s thriller Holland, Michigan. The Australian actress will soon be seen alongside Zac Efron and Joey King in Netflix’s rom-com A Family Affair, which will begin streaming in November.
Kidman, who is currently filming Taylor Sheridan‘s new Paramount+ series Lioness, is represented by CAA and Media Talent Group, while Erskine is repped by Gersh and Mosaic. Deadline broke the news of their pairing on The Perfect Nanny.
