We continue to see the repercussions of the recently-completed writers strike and ongoing actors strike as the Writers Guild (WGA) announced today that its annual WGA Awards will be pushed back to April 14, 2014.
Normally, the WGA Awards would take place a week or two before the Oscars, but delaying them until weeks after the 96th Academy Awards (taking place on March 10) means they won’t act as any sort of equalizer in the already-packed Original and Adapted Screenplay categories, which always could use a boost from an earlier WGA win.
The reasoning for the move is to “allow for a full awards submissions process to occur after the strike,” the WGA explained in a statement.
