Bradley Cooper to Direct and Star in Searchlight Movie Is This Thing On? Alongside Writer Will Arnett

Bradley Cooper‘s Maestro is expected to be a major player this awards season, and now the director of A Star Is Born has lined up a new project behind the camera — the secretive Searchlight movie Is This Thing On? which will pair him with his old pal Will Arnett.

Deadline broke the news, reporting that plot details are being kept under wraps, but Arnett is known to have written the script with his Flaked collaborator Mark Chappell and turned in a draft prior to the Writers Strike. Cooper will likely work with Arnett and Chappell on the next draft of the script, though that won’t happen until the strike ends, of course.

Cooper will produce under his Lea Pictures banner along with Arnett and Kris Thykier, while John Bishop will serve as an executive producer on the project, which is in early development at Searchlight.

Cooper is a nine-time Oscar nominee who has earned a range of different nominations for A Star Is Born, American Hustle, American Sniper, and Silver Linings Playbook, and he’s poised to add to that total once Maestro hits Netflix this fall. Cooper co-wrote and directed the film, which finds him playing legendary composer Leonard Bernstein opposite Carey Mulligan. He can currently be heard as the voice of Rocket Raccoon in James Gunn‘s Marvel sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Cooper is represented by Range Media Partners.

Best known for playing Gob on the acclaimed sitcom Arrested Development, Arnett also voiced the title character on the hit animated series BoJack Horseman, and he can currently be seen in the docuseries SmartLess: On the Road, which follows him on a cross-country tour with his SmartLess podcast co-hosts Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes. Arnett will soon be heard as the voice of Sweet Tooth on the upcoming Peacock series Twisted Metal, which he also produced, and he’ll also be seen alongside Michael Fassbender and Elisabeth Moss in Taika Waititi‘s upcoming movie Next Goal Wins, which is a Searchlight release. Arnett is repped by CAA and Artists First.
