The Crown star Emma Corrin, who famously played Princess Diana in the acclaimed Netflix series, has signed on to play the villain in Marvel’s Deadpool 3.
Ryan Reynolds will return as the Merc With a Mouth, and he’ll be joined by Hugh Jackman, who will reprise his beloved role as Wolverine. Expect a foul-mouthed buddy picture with plenty of action, as director Shawn Levy will surely be given a hefty budget for this sequel following the success of his Reynolds vehicles Free Guy and The Adam Project.
Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese wrote the script, while Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin penned an earlier draft. Reynolds and Levy will produce alongside Kevin Feige of Marvel, which wasn’t involved in previous Deadpool movies, as those were made under the 20th Century Fox banner.
While Marvel is keeping Corrin’s role firmly under wraps (it’s not Danger though, apparently) the studio has had its eye on the English actor for several months, though Corrin had an extremely busy schedule to navigate. For example, just yesterday, they signed on to join Robert Eggers‘ Nosferatu movie starring Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe.
In addition to their acclaimed turn in The Crown, which brought Corrin a Golden Globe statue as well as an Emmy nomination, they recently starred opposite Harry Styles in the terrific drama My Policeman, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video following its debut at TIFF. Corrin also starred alongside Jack O’Connell in the steamy Netflix movie Lady Chatterley’s Lover, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival.
Corrin recently wrapped FX’s limited series Retreat, and they can currently be seen onstage in the West End in a new adaptation of Virginia Woolf‘s play Orlando from My Policeman director Michael Grandage. Corrin is represented by Circle of Confusion and Insight Management & Production, and their casting was first reported by Deadline.
