Jason Momoa and John Cena to Star in WB Action Comedy Killer Vacation From James Gunn’s Family Members

Muscle men Jason Momoa and John Cena are set to star in the action comedy Killer Vacation, which is currently in the works at Warner Bros.

The project was written by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn — as in, James Gunn‘s brother and cousin — and it will be produced by Peter Safran and John Rickard. Variety broke the news, noting that the project was packaged and set up at Warner Bros. before James Gunn and Safran took over DC Studios.

One of Variety‘s insiders compared the script for Killer Vacation to that of True Lies, though plot details remain under wraps for now. Suffice to say, it sounds like someone is in for a rough vacation… though I’m sure that filming in some exotic location will be fun for both actors. Cena and Momoa recently worked together on the upcoming blockbuster Fast X and wanted to re-team on a project that would highlight their chemistry together.

Momoa is WB’s billion-dollar man, as he plays Aquaman in the DCU, and will once again return as the King of Atlantis in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will hit theaters next year. Meanwhile, Cena plays Peacemaker in the DCU, having earned his own HBO Max spinoff following a well-received debut in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Just don’t confuse Killer Vacation with his other vacation movie, Vacation Friends, which was such a hit for Hulu that there’s a sequel in development titled Honeymoon Friends.

WME represents both Momoa and Cena, who strike me as a fun pairing on paper, though I’m curious to see who WB brings in to direct this one, and whether James Gunn will make it a family affair and take the reins himself, as it sounds right up his alley.
